My family (4 of us) visited Uluwehi Coffee Farm today, and we all love the experience. The owner gave us a warm welcome and a wonderful tour. We not only learned the full process of the production of 100% Kona coffee but also his philosophy of producing high quality coffee. The tour was full of facts and details, from how to pick and grow seedlings, peel the cherries, ferment and dry the beans to coffee roasting, as well as how to pick better Kona coffee, lots of fun in about 45 minutes. We have not tried the coffee yet, but we are positive they are great! We appreciate the hospitality, all the efforts and joys the owner offered us today. We hope we can come back to big island, and if so, we will visit Uluwehi Coffee Farm for another time.
This coffee tour blew us out of the water.. totally exceeded expectations! Frank was so chill, friendly, and genuine. It was really great to learn about not only Kona coffee, but his experience and learnings getting into the coffee business. We very happily bought a bunch of coffee and some cute tshirts! It was really amazing and I can’t wait to come back and see how the farm has progressed!
Not having visited any of the other 800 Kona coffee farms that exist today (which seems unbelievable on its own as a statistic), I can't provide any comparisons. But I was looking for a more "boutique"-style Kona coffee producer and a chance to speak to the owner/farmer themselves not only to learn more about coffee growing in Hawaii, but also to ensure any coffee I bought was not more than a couple of days past its roasting date (yes, I am likely a certifiable coffee snob). Uluwehi Farms seemed like the right "fit" based on the reviews posted. And I'm happy to report that Uluwehi did not disappoint. Uluwehi Farm is a beautiful "small" and young coffee farm with a breath-taking panoramic view of the Pacific. Given that it sits at 1900 ft elevation, there's a good chance you'll get cloud cover if you're taking the 11am tour. Though, weather today for us was nearly cloudless which made for a beautiful, scenic tour and seascape viewing. Franck, the owner, is a cheerful and enthusiastic coffee grower and roaster, and has only himself been coffee farming for a couple of years (he had others manage the farm for a few more years before that before moving here). He has 5 acres of mostly young coffee trees, but the coffee he produces is delicious. Franck does nearly all processing from growing to roasting (save for the "dry mill" step) which makes Franck/Uluwehi Farms single origin, single estate, direct "farm-to-consumer" producer. Again, not having been to other farms, I can't compare him to other Kona coffee producers, but his coffee for sure exemplifies the quality of coffee that Kona coffee is known for (certifiable coffee snob, remember?). Even as a comparatively young producer and "new-kid-on-the-block" status, he is already award-winning when he competed last year. I highly HIGHLY recommend Uluwehi for anyone looking for a more intimate, boutique coffee farm experience and a chance to interact directly with the owner.Re: logistics - My wife and I made a day-of reservation for a tour at 11am today, which was super easy to do online. Note that Google Maps doesn't show the exact location of the farm so if you sign up, be sure to read the directions to his place carefully as other reviewers have noted and anticipate another 3-5 minutes extra to get to the actual farm location which is past a security gate (which itself is interesting). Everything that Franck showed us is right there and so there is really not much walking. At the end (or even at the beginning, in our case) there is some of his coffee to try. So delicious. Enjoy!
I loved the place!! Lots of very professional attention! We tried the very delicious coffee!!We buy coffee beans and ground prepared at the moment!! I recommend it! If you like coffee and know its process you have to come to this place!
We met a lot of passionate people during our trip on the island, Franck and Nathalie were the most passionate of them! their coffee farm and surroundings are meticulously kept, the view from the farm is amazing. But most importantly, the tour was fun and captivating, we learned so much. And their coffee... man...absolutely delicious! we were lucky Franck still had a few bags so we snatched them all! Nathalie is starting an awesome line of scrub and lip balm. If you just have time to visit one thing, go there! it's close to Kona and you certainly won't be disapointed
This was my favorite part of my visit to the island! Frank, the farm owner, was so enthusiastic and passionate about his farm and was truly an inspiration. His coffee was the best that I had the honor to taste and I loved getting to learn about the process of coffee from seed to cup. His farm was beautiful and reflected the hard work and intentionality that Frank pours into his coffee from start to finish! Visiting and buying Uluwehi coffee is a must!
My husband and I were the only two people on a tour. Frank took us all around his property showing us his coffee trees, how the beans are harvested and processed, and roasted. He has a small scale operation, and the coffee beans are hand picked from the trees. We learned so much. The coffee was delicious as well. He was a very nice man and even gave us some recommendations for things to do on the island and for lunch spots. We highly recommend coming here for your Kona coffee tour!
My first experience at a coffee farm was here at Uluwehi Coffee Farm. This was an experience I will remember forever. Frank & Natalie were so kind & hospitable. Frank is extremely knowledgeable about his craft and so ready to share with others his passion. Uluwehi is beautifully kept and managed. His process is carried out with precision and intention.
This tour experience will go down as one of my favorite memories. Having this opportunity to see coffee from seed to cup was amazing. The host/owners were so kind, informative and generous and I would 10/10 recommend. Thank you so much! Best experience!!!!
My wife and I scheduled a tour of the farm and were very excited to see how coffee was produced on Hawaii. When we arrived we were greeted by Frank, the owner of the farm, and multiple coffees to try before the tour got started. After our tasting, Frank spent two hours going through the entire process start to finish with us and was happy to answer any questions we had. Frank was a genuine pleasure to be around and you can tell he has a passion for making quality coffee and giving every one of his visitors a quality experience. I highly recommend the tour to anyone who enjoys a cup of coffee and wants to learn more about how it’s made.A little tip when heading to the farm. When you put it in your gps it will take you to a gated community and you’ll think you’re in the wrong spot but you are in the right location. Check the confirmation email for the tour and it will have a gate code for you to get in and you’ll follow the road until you take a left turn onto uluwehi road and from there you will see signs.
Cannot recommend the tour enough. My wife and I had the best time and felt immediately at home with Frank as he showed us around the property. It gets better, the coffee was phenomenal. Best cup we had on the island.
What a pleasant surprise! We stopped by this nice coffee farm by accident without reservation. Frank generously showed us around and explained his farm to us. He's very knowledgeable about the coffee business and his coffee was excellent.
We were so glad that we had the time to visit Uluwehi Coffee farm. Frank was so generous with his time telling us about his farm and showing us different steps of processing coffee beans from picking up to roasting. We learned so much about Kona coffee and coffee in general. Loved the view on the coffee farm and inspired by his passion towards coffee. We are looking forward to starting our Kona coffee journey at home 🙂
We just visited the farm in Mid August 2022. We did not make an appointment but the owner, Frank, was very kind and gave us a wonderful tour. We could see he was very knowledgeable and passionate/proud of his coffee farm. We bought all the coffee he just freshly roasted. We LOVE his 100% KONA coffee- Antidote. Highly recommended! We have visited several KONA coffee farms on the BIG ISLAND, and this is definitely the most memorable and enjoyable one!!!
Talk about a fantastic experience. I cannot remember when I have enjoyed learning about something so much. Everything from the planting of the trees to harvesting the beans to roasting the coffee was explained so beautifully and with such passion. So far this has been the highlight of my trip to Hawaii. The coffee is delicious and I will continue to order online when I return home to the mainland. This is not to be missed when you visit Kona!
Luckily, me and my wife had a chance to visit this farm yesterday. Well organized farm and Frank was so passinate for the coffee and his life as well. Pilot, dive master and even planning chicken coop!!!We enjoyed 'the antidote' in this morning with my tricolate brewer. Well balanced with fruity taste.Try this peaberry!
I ordered Antidote 34 (Dark) and Antidote Red (Dark) and the delivery to California was very quick.I love both of them and I like to go back and forth between these two different styles depending on the day.My favorite might be the Antidote Red which I find complex and rich but at the same time well-balanced. I highly recommend it.Antidote 34 and Antidote Red are perfect for coffee lovers!!
Amazing coffee! My family is from Kona and we have enjoyed Hawaiian coffee my whole life. Uluwehi is one of the best roasts I have ever tasted. We ordered Antidote Red and Antidote 34. My favorite is red. It is smooth and sweet with a clean finish. Shipping was super fast.
I love this coffee! I'm not one to write reviews, but I liked this so much I just had to. It starts with easy ordering and quick delivery, but the aroma that fills the room through grinding and brewing and finally enjoying, is just so first rate, I had to share. It truly is a superior coffee experience.
After receiving Antidote as a gift and absolutely loving it, I ordered coffee from Uluwehi Coffee Farm for family and friends as Christmas gifts (my orders were processed and sent out really quickly!). Everyone loved it and they plan on reordering for themselves once they run out. The coffee is fantastic. I recommend it highly!
I ordered several bags of Uluwehi coffee online and received them in a timely manner in California. I really enjoy a cup of SL34 every day after lunch. When spending time on our sailing boat, I even use a manual grinder so I don't miss its nutty aroma and sweet and savory structure for one day! Uluwehi coffee is so unique that it is a privilege to drink such an exceptional quality coffee.
We ordered 2 pounds of Antidote Red (Red Bourbon) coffee from Uluwehi coffee farm: shipping to CA was very quick and roast was perfect.Excellent coffee, highly recommended. One of our favorite source of specialty coffee.
